What size breaker does the ChargePoint Home Flex need?

It depends on the output the electrician sets. Hardwired, ChargePoint lists 16 A on a 20 A breaker, 24 A on 30 A, 32 A on 40 A, 40 A on 50 A, 48 A on 60 A, and the full 50 A (12 kW) on a 70 A or 80 A breaker, always a dedicated two-pole breaker rated at least 125% of the output. ChargePoint also says to use a non-GFCI breaker for hardwired installs.

Can the Home Flex plug into a NEMA 14-50 outlet?

Yes: the NEMA 14-50 and 6-50 plug-in versions are separate models from the hardwired one, and they are limited to 32 A or 40 A on a 40 A or 50 A breaker. Only the hardwired version reaches 50 A. For a plug-in unit installed outdoors, ChargePoint calls for a weatherproof receptacle and an outdoor-rated GFCI breaker upstream.

Does the ChargePoint Home Flex work with a Tesla?

Yes. ChargePoint sells NACS (J3400) versions of the Home Flex in hardwired, 14-50 and 6-50 builds that plug straight into a Tesla. A J1772 Home Flex charges a Tesla with the J1772 adapter that comes with the car, and ChargePoint sells a self-install conversion kit (a 23 ft NACS cable and holster insert) to change a J1772 unit over to NACS.

Can two ChargePoint Home Flex chargers share one circuit?

No. ChargePoint says each Home Flex needs its own dedicated circuit, and it publishes no load-management or power-sharing feature for the home unit. If your panel is short on capacity, a charger with published dynamic load management (such as the Wallbox Pulsar Plus with its power meter, or the Emporia Pro) is the alternative to a service upgrade.

Does the Home Flex need Wi-Fi to charge?

Not to charge: ChargePoint says it still charges on schedule or when you plug in if Wi-Fi drops, and it stores up to 90 days of session data offline. It does need to be activated, though: until it is, it holds charging at 16 A for safety. The electrician can set the amperage over Bluetooth when Wi-Fi isn't available.
