What's good
- Sub-10 ms switchover — router, modem and a desktop ride through outages
- Ten pounds goes anywhere; this is the one that actually leaves the house
- Expansion battery path when 286 Wh stops being enough
What's not
- 286 Wh runs a refrigerator for about 90 minutes — this is not an outage machine
- X-Boost's 1,200 W is for resistive loads only; motors get 600 W
Our verdict
The right first purchase for a lot of people: it solves the internet-and-laptop outage problem for a fraction of the big units' cost, and teaches you your real capacity needs before you spend four figures. Just don't ask it to run the kitchen.
